September 11th: The Passenger Experience at AUS with Constance Y. White
Join us at the newly opened 1 Hotel Austin for the inaugural event in a new series of Collective programming at the hotel. For this first gathering, we turn our attention to the remarkable public art program being curated at the new Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Nick Campbell will sit down with Constance Y. White, the airport’s Design Lead, alongside several commissioned artists.
As AUS undergoes the largest expansion in its history, it is also launching one of the most ambitious airport public art programs in Texas—a museum of sorts experienced by millions of travelers each year. White, who oversees the airport’s art and music teams, is leading over 20 artists whose work speaks to Austin’s identity at monumental scale. Our conversation will explore what it takes to create public art of this magnitude: commissioning as a part of integrated building design and behind the scenes coordination happening to amplify the passenger experience for one of the busiest spaces in the city.
The evening will include a presentation of 7 commissioned projects, followed by an open conversation with White and the artists—an insider’s look at a collection most of us will only ever glimpse as arriving and departing travelers.
